Review of Zero 10X Components
The Zero 10X features dual mechanical disc brakes with massive 160 mm rotors. These are quality, legit disc brakes, and required no adjustments out of the box. They are absolutely needed to keep the reigns on this dual 1000 W scooter.
In our ride tests, we found the brakes to be very strong. Bringing this monster under control from top speed was no problem with this braking system. They are powerful enough to easily lock up both wheels.
Despite the cable control, the brake levers still provide decent “feeling” for the brakes. After some getting used to, you can tell how much traction the beefy 10 x 3″ tires have, and maximally brake without locking up the tires.
Sure, hydraulically-controlled disc brakes would be better, but you will never see them on any scooter at this price point.
The dual 1000 W brushless DC motors, with 1600 W peak output (each), are absolute savages. They have so much torque that you can easily spin both wheels not only from a standstill but even at speed. The motors provide more than enough power to absolutely smoke any other vehicle on the street.
The Zero 10X has a massive 68 mile range and you’ll likely not need more. Your actual range will depend on your riding habits. Range will definitely decrease with high speed riding and dual-wheel burnouts (which you are likely to do).
However, we do note that user data from Falcon PEV Zero brand scooters, indicates that most riders get close to the claimed range.
The Zero 10X has monstrous 10″ diameter by 3″ wide pneumatic inner-tube tires. These provide great ride quality (along with the suspension). The tire width contributes immensely to feeling stable on this scooter, particularly when accelerating and decelerating quickly. At speed they will soak up imperfections in the road (or off it). Finally, these tires will give you the confidence to push this scooter to its limits because you know their supple rubber is helping to keep you pinned to the earth.

Ride quality: Suspension and Tires
Huge 10″ pneumatic tires and dual front and rear coil-over-air shocks soak up any rough terrain you throw at it. In the city, potholes, road debris, and trash will be no match for the Zero 10X at nearly any speed. Off road, the suspension has enough travel to take jumps and there are plenty of YouTube videos demonstrating this.
The Zero 10X scooter has deck-mounted front and rear lights. Their low-mounted position is not ideal for visibility. Be warned — the lights aren’t amazing and for serious night riding. We recommend more powerful lights placed high on the scooter.

The cockpit is simple, functional, and well-designed.
Starting with the handlebars: these are solid mountain bike handlebars with quality grips. They are wide and give excellent ergonomics and steering control. Unfortunately, the handlebar height is not adjustable viable and is set at a slightly high level which may be an issue for shorter riders. Riders under 5’7″ (170 cm), will want to test drive this scooter before purchasing.
On the right side of the cockpit is the LCD display which features speed, odometer, mode, and battery readout. The throttle control is attached to the display and is index finger operated (similar to other Zero and Dualtron models).
Dual disc brakes are controled by left and right hand levers.
Additionally, on the left are two push buttons to allow single/dual motors and eco / power modes.
Finally, an excellent added touch is the key-enabled power. This means that you can leave your Zero 10X parked outside without having to worry about someone powering it on and taking off with it (though we wouldn’t leave it for too long because someone is liable to throw it into the back of their 4-runner and drive off). We would also like to see the wheels lock when no key is present.
Coming in at 77 lbs, the Zero 10X is a beefcake. You aren’t going to throw this into the back of an Uber, take it on bus, or carry it up multiple flights of stairs to your apartment. It’s a heavy scooter and not designed for that. The stem does collapse down to reduce the profile of the scooter, but it is still pretty big and does not lock in place.
Stem folding mechanism
One thing to note is that the stem folding mechanism is a little finicky. At first we thought that it might be damage or a quality issue, but you have to get used to tightening it correctly. After some playing with the double latching mechanism (and adjustment of pre-load screws), the stem will be rock solid when locked into place. And we mean it — no slop; no wobble; rock solid.
There is a reason Zero electric scooters have a legendary international reputation and the 10X is no different. Build quality is fantastic and befitting of the Zero brand name.
Virtually every component of the scooter is thick and metal. The swing arms, bolts, and pivots are over-sized and durable. The steering is tight. The suspension is incredible — hefty but plush. The motors are surprisingly quiet, even under full throttle acceleration or at top speed.
In summary, this scooter will shrug off anything you throw at it — you’re most likely the one to take damage doing it. The Zero 10X is a pretty reasonable investment that will be solid for years (and miles) to come.
The only downside of all this build quality is the weight that comes with it. Quality metal parts are steel and heavy.
Zero 10X Review: Final Thoughts
The Zero 10X is the best high performance electric scooter you can buy. For quite a bit under $2000, you get the top-of-the-line electric scooter from the legendary Zero brand. It is an amazing scooter for commuting, but only if you don’t have to heft it up stairs or into a car. This scooter has more power, top speed, and range than you’ll likely every need. Its build quality will literally keep it running for years to come.
Nothing in its price category comes even close to the performance you get with the Zero 10X.
