Kaabo Mantis King GT Summary

Kaabo is such a good brand; we can’t stop talking about them. And they give us new reasons to rave on and on about them at every turn.

Kaabo announced that they were making improvements to one of our favorite light-heavyweight scooters–the Mantis Pro. We couldn’t have been more excited as we had already seen with the Wolf King GT update. But this upgrade was nothing like we expected.

The NEW Kaabo Mantis King GT is categorically a new class champ in the light-heavyweights; a class comprising electric scooters that weigh under 80 lbs, with 11 inch pneumatic tires and dual motors as the key qualifiers.

The Mantis King GT is almost a complete overhaul of the Mantis Pro scooters with better waterproofing, a nicer display, a better throttle, waterproof sine wave controllers, and more.

Kaabo Wolf King GT Review

Our Take: Kaabo Struck Gold on the King GT–The Best and Flashiest Mantis Yet; and a King in its Class.

The MANTIS KING GT is the most powerful electric scooter from the Kaabo Mantis series, with two motors with nominal power of 1100W (over 4200W total peak power) and Samsung Li-ion 60V / 25Ah battery, with a range of up to 37 miles. This automatically tells you that the Mantis King GT is a performer.

But what are the new features? Well, the scooter is equipped with a new multi-function TFT display, a better IP rating of IPX5, 2x30Ah Sine Wave controllers that have a smoother and more efficient operation than their square-wave counterparts, adjustable front, and rear hydraulic shock absorbers, new folding mechanism with double protection and allows quick folding/unfolding of the scooter.

There’s still more to anticipate from the Mantis King GT. This electric scooter comes with differentiated rear turn signals from the LED lights, and additional LED strips on both of the scooter’s sides, emphasizing the sporty skyline of the scooter and better visibility.

The chassis on the Mantis King GT is also slightly larger, which improves comfort and driving safety. Equipped with 10-inch x 3-inch pneumatic tires, double disc hydraulic brakes (140mm), electric brakes with EABS function and battery regeneration, and a headlamp with an electric horn.

The Mantis King GT is a multi-functional scooter, suitable for the city and off-road. Read on to see just how the King GT performs in our performance tests; and how it fares against other scooters.

Key Upgrades Made on the Kaabo Mantis King GT

Upgrades were made on the new model Mantis, and they are pretty sweet!

  • A small but noticeable increment in motor power from 1000W to 1100W on each motor.
  • This, combined with the change of controllers from 60v 27A to 60 30A, has led to an improvement in the scooter’s power, acceleration, and speed.
  • The Mantis King GT upgrades the battery from the former’s 1050 Wh to the new 1440 Wh battery. This directly has an effect on the Mantis’ range from 29 miles on the base model to 37 miles.
  • Another upgrade that riders will appreciate is the switch from the dual Spring Suspension adopted on previous Mantis models to the adjustable hydraulic suspension.
Kaabo Mantis King GT Back Shock Spring
  • Change in the tire thickness from 2.5 inches to 3.0 inches, but the diameter remains the same at 10-inches. The increase in width improves the grip and traction.
  • Change from the finger throttle to the thumb throttle.
Kaabo Mantis King GT Throttle closeup
  • Increase in the scooter’s dimensions, including the deck.
  • The ground clearance increased to 5.8 inches up from
  • The King GT is the first Mantis to have an IP rating (IPX5)
  • The Mantis King GT electric scooter transitions from the old EY3 display to the new 4 Inch TFT

  • The Mantis King GT adopts a new stem folding and locking mechanism
  • Finally, the scooter sees a change in the position of the charge ports from the deck to a more accessible area on the neck of the chassis

Is It Good for Bigger, Heavier Riders?Yes.

The sheer look of it and the feel of it is enough to tell you that the Mantis King GT electric scooter is a big dawg’s white whale.

The Mantis King GT packs a pair of powerful 1100 W motors (4200 W peak power), that can comfortably carry a weight of up to 265 lbs. The power from these motors is great enough to sustain performance on all kinds of terrain including hilly tracks despite the rider’s weight.

Riders get 21 inches x 9 inches of riding platform, which is more than adequate for switching up riding stances, especially for riders with larger feet. The handlebars also sit a cool 40-inches above the deck, ensuring that taller riders don’t hunch over too much when riding. The stem stability is also incredible, which is necessary given the scooter’s amazing 45 mph top speed.

Besides that, the scooter has adjustable shocks which riders can tune to their specific weight, riding style, and riding terrain. The large 60v, 1440 Wh Samsung battery also caters to the higher power requirements when carrying heavy riders.

These factors combined provide a decent ride experience for heavier and taller riders looking to hit the streets on the Kaabo Mantis King GT electric scooter.

Performance Summary

If you haven’t, check out how your favorite Kaabos fared in our Best of 2022 awards. Meanwhile, here’s how the Mantis King GT held up in our performance tests.

Acceleration (0 to 15 mph) 1.9 seconds
Acceleration (0 to 20 mph) 3.0 seconds
Acceleration (0 to 25 mph) 4.1 seconds
Acceleration (0 to 30 mph) 5.8 seconds
Acceleration (0 to 35 mph) 7.9 seconds
Acceleration (0 to 40 mph) 11.6 seconds
Top speed 45.1 mph
Braking distance (15 to 0 mph) 9.6 feet
Range 36.6 miles
Hill climb 7.5 seconds

Acceleration

WOWZA! The acceleration on the Mantis King GT is pretty darn impressive! With twin 30A sine wave controllers replacing the 27A controllers on the previous Mantis Pro, this “little” guy is both smoother and faster! At 1.9 seconds to 15 mph, the Mantis King GT dethrones the Mantis Pro as the quickest Mantis, and ties the Vsett 10+ for the quickest light heavyweight electric scooter out there and also matching the time set by the original Wolf Warrior 11.

Top Speed

The Mantis King GT electric scooter is the first Mantis to reach a top speed of 40 mph, and surpass that to 45 mph. This makes the King one of the fastest Light Heavyweight electric scooters we’ve ever tested. Only the Dualtron Victor and Victor Luxury were faster. It is also exceptionally stable at high-speed thanks to built-in steering damping, but not as stable as the dual-stemmed members of the Kaabo clan.

The scooter’s top speed can also be controlled by switching between 5 modes. The modes are all programmable. What’s even more interesting is that you can engage either single or dual motors in each of the 5 modes by holding down the plus button on the left side of the handlebars. Selecting a different mode caps the top speed to a software-limited top speed.

Hill Climb

The hills call, and the King GT heeds. Like the original 72-volt Kaabo Wolf King, the Mantis King GT eats hills for breakfast thanks to its powerful 1100W dual motors that can generate a peak power of 4000W.

Our normal test hill was no match for the Mantis King GT, which took just 7.5 seconds to make the ascent at an average speed of 18 mph. It arrived at the top two-tenths of a second behind the bigger Wolf King GT, tying the Vsett 10+ and beating the original Mantis Pro by four-tenths of a second.

Range and Battery

The electric scooter has a max range that is definitely worth talking about. It’s equipped with a 1440Wh premium Samsung battery(21700 cells), which gives it plenty of juice to cover 37 miles on the RG test course. That puts it in pretty rarefied air among light heavyweight scooters, with only a handful of other models boasting a better range- Dualtron Victor(39 miles),Wolf Warrior X Pro (41 miles), Dualtron Victor Luxury (42 miles).

During our test the Mantis King GT maintained hill climbing speed throughout the journey, only losing steam when it dropped below 5% battery. At zero-percent-battery, the scooter did something that surprised me. It dropped into something I can only describe as walk-mode, and let me ride at 3 mph to 5 mph for another ⅓ of a mile/kilometer.

Of course, your mileage may vary depending on conditions (our test was done with a 165 lb rider at the highest gear with dual-motor and standard P settings engaged ).

For the charging, The Mantis King GT also gets 2 charging ports for the first time, and comes with two chargers bringing charging time down to 6 hours, despite the huge battery! You can also have the option of fast chargers that reduce the charge time further to 2.4 hrs.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Charge Ports Closeup

The charge ports have been moved to the neck of the scooter, which makes them easy to reach and hard to damage. Unfortunately, the new connector style makes it a little harder to plug in compared to the classic, three-prong charge port. So it’s a good idea to double-check your charger to make sure you’ve inserted the plug all the way in. All things considered, though, these are small trade-offs for an otherwise excellent scooter.

Braking

Kaabo Mantis King GT Closeup of Disk Brakes

The Mantis King GT has some of the best brakes in the business – and that’s no yolk. But what makes the braking good? For starters, they’re double-disc hydraulic brakes with thick 140 mm rotors and suspension that helps with traction.

This Mantis also has electric brakes that give you a little extra stopping power. And best of all, they require very little effort to engage. In fact, they’re so good that they can stop 10 ft from a speed of 15 mph. That’s better than any other Kaabo scooter, including the new Matis V2 and the Dualtron Victor Luxury by nearly 2 feet!

Ride Quality

The Mantis King GT will deliver a ride that’s so royally good, that you’ll never want to take another scooter to the streets. Part of the reason for the extremely smooth ride experience is the King GT’s adjustable front and rear hydraulic shock absorbers. There’s a reason that every motorcycle on the planet uses hydraulic shocks, they’re just better than absolutely everything else.

Right out of the box the adjustable shocks are awesome, and with just a few clicks they get even better. For a bouncier, softer response, turn the dial clockwise. And for a stiffer, more fixed feel, turn the dial counterclockwise. Our shocks developed squeaks at the pivot points, but as with most squeaks, Lithium spray grease solved it in less than 5 minutes. The stem stiffness gets a B+–it is not as stiff as Phantom, Vsett, or even the previous Mantis Pro, but there was no stem wobble while riding.

The Mantis King GT followed in the Wolf Warrior’s, and the Wolf King GT’s footsteps and got upgraded to the smoother and more efficient(waterproof) sine wave controllers. The Mantis King GT also gets a thumb throttle, which resembles the one on the Wolf King GT and the NAMI. Throttle control is excellent, though it still has the same dead zone as on these bigger scooters.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Deck

Riding itself feels comfortable thanks to the large deck that provides plenty of usable riding space. The footrest is also a huge improvement over the previous generation. Like always, it’s curved front to back to match your foot, but it’s now flat side to side, so you can control the lean of the scooter with your rear foot. The scooter also rolls on tubed pneumatic off-road tires that absorb quite the amount of shock, and are easy over uneven terrain.

Keep an eye on your speed, because the smooth ride and smooth throttle will trick you into riding faster than you think you are. Fortunately, the speedometer is easy to read and let me just say how happy we are to say goodbye to the EY3 display of the Mantis Pro, in favor of the 4 inch color TFT display of the Mantis King GT. You can read it in bright sunlight, and it tells you everything you could ever want to know, including the time, right at the top of the display.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Electric Scooter Features

Portability

Kaabo Mantis King GT Folding Stem

The Mantis GT electric scooter is a bit of a beast. It’s the heaviest scooter in the Mantis line, weighing in at 74 lbs. It’s also the largest when folded, measuring 50 inches by 26 inches by 23 inches making it a bit of a pain to carry around. Looking at the scooter, it’s not clear where it gained 9 lbs, but you can definitely feel it. I wouldn’t want to carry it up more than one flight of stairs on a daily basis

It’s also quite long, so it might be a tight fit in smaller cars. But on the plus side, it has a quick folding mechanism, so you can definitely take it with you on the go–just be prepared to get a workout.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Stem Locj

The new stem latch however is super fast, and has a really cool-looking safety mechanism. Just don’t forget to use it, because it looks almost the same when engaged or not. Overall, this is a great upgrade from the previous models. The old collar clamp locking mechanism was just too time-consuming to set up and adjust.

Cockpit

Kaabo Mantis King GT Handlebars wide

The cockpit of the Mantis King GT is where all the magic happens.the cockpit layout is well-designed and user-friendly. And we’re happy to say goodbye to the EY3 display of the Mantis Pro in favor of the adjustable 4-inch anti-glare color TFT display of the Mantis King GT(.borrowed from the Wolf King GT.). You can read it in bright sunlight, and it tells you everything you could ever want to know: speed (current, avg and max), the set gear, battery remaining, miles covered, etc. It also includes the time, right at the top of the display.

Looking at the handlebar we can see that it’s neatly arranged and each button is clearly marked. In the middle is the huge display that is impossible to miss.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Horn and Light Controls

To the left of the handlebar, we have the control cluster encompassing the headlight, indicators, electric horn, and the Power/TFT controls. At the end, we have the rear brake lever. To the right of the handlebar, you have the ergonomic thumb throttle and the front brake lever. Everything is within easy reach.

Lights

It’s clear that the Mantis GT King is a scooter that knows how to light up a room– literally.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Headlight

We love the new high-mounted headlight and the low-mounted lights which are now much much brighter than before. High mounted light and RGB swag LED lights make a huge difference in visibility at night and really emphasize the sporty, street-racing look of the scooter.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Brakelights

To top that off, the Mantis GT King has separate brake and turn signal lights. And unlike early versions of the Mantis, the buttons for the headlight and the turn signals have indicator lights. That’s definitely a step up in terms of safety and convenience.

Tires

Kaabo Mantis King GT Bake Tire

The Scooter is equipped with 10-inch by 3-inch wide pneumatic hybrid off-road tires (with inner tube)  that can go from the street to the dirt with ease making them great for riders who want to be able to tackle all kinds of terrain.

Kaabo Mantis King GT Front Tire

We also found that they held up relatively well on off-road surfaces like dirt and gravel, but they’re not quite as grippy on the pavement as road tires. They do make the ride a little noisier, but that’s to be expected with any off-road tire. On the plus side, they’re mounted on split rims for easy tire changes.

Deck

Kaabo Mantis King GT Deck wide shot

There’s a lot to like about the King GT Scooter, but one of my favorite features is the deck. Not only does it look awesome, with the words “King” written on it, but it also has great grip and plenty of usable deck space. Measuring in at 21 inches by 9 inches The Deck size  is 1 inch longer and 1 inch wider than before and nearly 3 inches longer than the famously short deck of the Vsett 10+

Kaabo Mantis King GT Back wheel gaurd

The footrest is also a huge improvement over the previous generation. Like always, it’s curved front to back to match your foot, but it’s now flat side to side, so you can control the lean of the scooter with your rear foot.

It also has better ground clearance than its predecessors, with a clearance of 6 inches. This is enough to prevent under-deck scraping.

Build Quality

Kaabo Mantis King GT Portrait

The Mantis King GT is a good-looking scooter, and you can get it in either black and red and black and gold. We took one look at it and thought, “Wow, a single-stemmed Wolf King GT Pro.”

The scooter is made primarily from 6061–t6 aluminum alloy and 6082–t6 aluminum forging; and shaft scm440. It feels as premium as it looks, especially with the best Kaabo swag lights ever on the side of its deck. You can even customize the colors and patterns using the free “LED Hue” app.

The large deck, the large tires, and decent clearance, the tall and wide handlebars, all give the Mantis King GT a sizable stature, while still managing to keep the weight low at 73 lbs. This puts the Mantis in our light heavyweights, which we consider as scooters below 80 lbs, with 11 inch tires and dual motors. And the Mantis King GT is a class leader on many fronts.

The Mantis gets an IP rating (IPX5), following in the footsteps of the base model Mantis V2. Fenders are also massively improved and look better too. On our pre-production Mantis GT Pro the rear fender would rub on the tire over bumps, but Kaabo is aware of this and we expect they’ll have that sorted out by the time they go into full production.

We also mentioned how good the 4-inch TFT display looks, but it’s also the most water-resistant display ever, with a rating of IP65.

Safety

Kaabo Mantis King GT head Light

When it comes to safety, the Mantis King GT guards you like royalty with excellent night visibility from a high-mounted headlight, front deck light, and swag lights. We love that the turn signals are separate from the brake lights, but wish it had turn signals at the front too.

Kaabo Mantis King GT deck front lights

The Mantis King GT comes with an electronic horn, responsive braking, and a digital security lock, so only you can turn it on; plus build quality that makes it as safe as a dual motor scooter can be.

Warranty

Kaabo is known for producing high-quality products in the adult scooters’ market. The electric scooter’s warranty covers 2 years on the main scooter frame and the Mantis GT also has a 1-year limited warranty on other major components. The warranty protects consumers against manufacturing defects and improper assembly. The rider can get parts replaced free if the scooter develops issues related to manufacturing faults within the warranty period. The rider should also perform maintenance at appropriate intervals to keep the scooter in ship shape condition.

New Mantis King GT Electric Scooter Review–Best Mantis Yet.

The Mantis King GT does everything really well, braking, acceleration, smoothness, top speed, range, and just look at it. Our wish list for 2022 had a lot of things on it: better IP ratings, better displays, thumb throttles, hydraulic suspension, sine-wave motor controllers, and more 21700 battery cells. The Mantis King GT just checked all of those boxes.

The highest compliment we can pay this scooter is to say that it feels like a smaller, NAMI BURN-E 2, but less expensive, much more portable, and of course, a less intense ride. At $2,495 it’s not cheap, but if your budget allows, we can say with all confidence, the Mantis King GT will not disappoint.
