We were super excited about unboxing these three Solar electric scooters because every time we post a video on YouTube, somebody shows up in the comments and says: ‘What about Solar?

But up until now, we haven’t been able to test one because they haven’t been available in the US, they’ve been a UK-only brand. But, now they’ve got a warehouse in LA and they’re shipping from LA, and they’re going to do repairs there as well, so we’re stoked – we finally get to check out Solar!

And even better, we’re finally going to get answers to all those questions we have… so let’s dive in!

Solar E1 Electric Scooter

We’re going to start with the smallest one first: the Solar E1.

Paul and Ramier unboxing Solar e1

So this one’s a lot smaller, a lot lighter, and a lot less expensive than the other two. It retails for $595, and for that price, this is a cool-looking little scooter. The red is popping, it’s got a chic-looking rubber deck, it’s got solid tires front and rear, and it’s got suspension front and rear as well to smooth things out when you ride.

This is a 48-volt electric scooter, with 500 watts, and 13 amp hours – what does that mean? Well, it translates to you getting some pretty good bang for your not-so-much buck. We’re expecting over 20 miles of range and a speed of around 20 mph, which for $600 is not bad at all.

Water Resistant

The Solar E1 has an IP54 water resistance rating, so it should be okay for riding in light rain and enduring small splashes.

Weight

Solar says the E1 weighs 33 pounds, but we’ll weigh it ourselves when we test it and get back to you with our findings.

Question: Are Solar scooters Solar Powered?

One of the most frequent questions that come up is: are Solar scooters solar powered? Definitely not. But, their warehouses in the UK and LA are, as they’re powered by solar electricity.

Solar E1 Electric Scooter First Impressions

This is such a great entry scooter for just under $600. It’s got a rubberized deck, a little bell on the handlebar, thumb throttle, and we love this style of folding handlebars because they’re really quick to pop into place.

And while the black and red color scheme is classic, it looks good on this scooter, it kind of gives it a nice sleek look.

While this scooter looks like an older format of previous scooters, it’s been given a nice update. For example, we love the fender around the back wheel that wraps all the way around the wheel and down the back, offering superior water protection.

Max Rider Weight

The Solar E1 electric scooter will hold up to 265 pounds – we’ll test this out with Ramier and see if having a heavier rider will also affect the top speed and acceleration.

Unboxing the Solar P1 2.0 Electric Scooter

The Solar P1 2.0 electric scooter is $1,299 and is one of Solar’s most popular performance entry-level scooters.

This electric scooter comes with a full-size tool kit too – thank you Solar!

The spec says this scooter weighs about 50 pounds – which given the E1 is 33 pounds, and the FF Lite is closer to 70 pounds, this looks like the average weight of the scooter.

When you’re putting your P1 2.0 electric scooter together out of the box, there’s a little safety catch that you have to depress to get the stem to pop up. You then secure the stem by pushing the gold lever into place.

This electric scooter also comes with an attachable headlight, like the FF Lite, that you clamp onto the stem.

The stem itself has three positions you can lock it into, depending on how tall you are. Simply put it to the correct height for you, then clamp it in place.

Biometric

This electric scooter comes with a fingerprint reader and it can store up to 10 fingerprints. So if you’re sharing your e-scooter with somebody, then they can store their fingerprints on it too.

Bear in mind though, that the regular price for this scooter is $1,299, but if you want the fingerprint add-on, it’s $100 extra.

There’s also a different motor controller that goes with the fingerprint reader, so you get sine wave controllers if you go with the fingerprint reader, but if you go with the key switch then it’s got regular square wave controllers.

Specs

Solar says this scooter has a top speed of 40 mph and a range of 30 miles – but we’ll check these for real when Paul tests the scooter out.

The fingerprint reader has a little protective plastic cover on it, so don’t forget to peel that off, or you won’t be able to use it.

Display

This scooter comes with a nice-looking display. We particularly like the gold trim on the biometric reader, it’s a cool little finishing touch.

It’s a zero-start scooter and comes with cable-operated brakes and mechanical disc brakes. You have to position all the controls in place before you ride, and to give you an idea of what controls this scooter has, it comes with the familiar single dual motor buttons, and then maybe a turbo and regular, but we can’t see a label on these buttons though, so we’ll have to check that out when we test the scooter.

Launch Mode

With the P1 2.0, you can get into the scooter’s P-settings and set up the launch modes to how you like to start riding, i.e. you can set how hard it launches from zero. Then unlike a boost setting that expires after 10 seconds, this just turns up the intensity of the launch whenever you’ve got that preset. If you change your mind later, you can always turn it back down if that’s not your thing

Lights

This scooter also comes with turning signals, though they’re just positioned on the back only. The deck can also come with lights built into it, that is if you go for the Tron lights on your deck. If you want this feature, it’s a $140 extra, and those lights come in four different colors. The deck lights are activated by turning on the scooter’s headlight switch.
